Now, every one in that plant knows what pit tank means, but for an outsider, a visitor from another land maybe even from across town, that name may be confusing.
The lesson here is that all names should be spelled out in your process safety information. This includes names and ID numbers of compressors, condensers, and other equipment. Services should also be defined. The services provided by IIAR are recommendations and can be adjusted to meet any desired
And once these definitions have been established, all other documentation including labeling, procedures, and P&ID’s should be reviewed to assure the same language is used throughout.
The goal is that the language barriers be eliminated so that the plant can be run safely and efficiently, with everyone having understanding of the common knowledge.
